Titirangi Domain / Kaiti Hill Provides great views of the city.  Hike up the walkways to make the most of Titirangi Recreational Reserve's native trees, picnic areas, fitness trail.

Langford Fallon Reserve - Whataupoko Reserve Langford Fallon reserve is situated directly to the East of Fox Street and to the North East of Seddon Crescent.  This reserve is hilly with small gullies.  Old farm tracks exist on the reserve which are ideal for Mountain bikes, recreational walkers and runners.  The majority of the reserve is covered in exotic tree species.  Total area is 22.108 ha.  For further info see www.gdc.govt.nz

Riverside Walkway A new pathway follows the banks of the Turanganui and Taruheru Rivers and is a lovely opportunity to view the inner city.

Te Kuri Farm Walkway 5.6km loop track of 2-3 hours to a highpoint overlooking Gisborne (290m).

Haurata Walkways Venture into native bush and follow walkways down to the peaceful rocky river.  There are three different walks to choose from all of which follow marked tracks and are 3-6 hours each.  You must check out this website. Gray's Bush Scenic Reserve Popular 12ha remnant of original kahikatea forest close to Gisborne.  10-20min loop tracks.

Waihirere Domain On back Ormond Rd.  A picnic area surrounded by native bush with a walk leading to Waihirere Waterfall.

Wainui - Makorori Headland A short but steep climb to a headland with views over two sweeping surf beaches.

Okitu Bush Scenic Reserve 2.6ha of scenic bush and a 20- 30 min track.  Adjacent to Wainui - Makorori Headland walkway. Gisborne to Opotiki (via Waiokea Gorge).

Otoko Walkway A 5km /2hr track following part of the disused Gisborne to Motouhora railway.

Whinray Scenic Reserve A 429 ha area of native forest running down to a spectacular set of water falls on the wild and scenic Motu River.  A 5km track runs through the reserve.

 
Waioeka/Urutawa

A wide range of tracks and walks that can be accessed from the Waioeka Gorge and SH2.  Includes the Tauranga Track 2-3 hrs, Mangapumarumaru Track 4hrs to Tutaetoko Stream, Manganuku Track 2 ½ - 4 hrs and others.

 
East Cape Area

Pakihi Track 4-6 hour one way bush track between Motu and Opotiki areas.  Can be mountain biked.

Waimana Valley Tracks There are a variety of walks, tracks and huts (1hr to multi-day) in the Waimana Valley, the northern end of Te Urewera National Park, accessible from Opotiki. 

Te Tapuwae o Rongokako Marine Reserve 2452ha of the East Coast between Pouawa and Whangara.  Inter-tidal reefs, sandy beaches and mudflats.  Beach walk of 4km.

Cook's Cove Walkway 5.8km (2.5hr) return trek over farmland and light bush to scenic and historic Cook's Cove.

Anaura Bay Walkway and Reserve 3.5km (2hr) loop track through coastal forest, pine forest and farmland.

Mahia Peninsula Scenic Reserve A 3.5km loop track through a 374ha reserve of semi-coastal native forest.  Lookouts.

Morere Springs Scenic Reserve Walking Tracks from 10 minutes to 2.5 hours in this 363ha reserve of diverse native bush reserve.

Te Reinga Falls Scenic ReserveTA short stroll to view the spectacular 35m drop in the Wairoa River.

Lake Waikaremoana Track 3 - 4 day hike of 46km around Lake Waikaremoana.  Cabins and campsites.  Bookings essential.

Lake Waikareiti 3 - 5 hour walk from Te Urewera National Park Visitor Centre at Waikaremoana to Lake Waikareiti.  Cabin.
