Napier - 118km 

Waihua Beach [Wairoa 20k, Napier 98k] 1km off SH2. Beach fishing, picnic spot.

Mohaka Turn-off [Wairoa 28k] Mohaka is a small settlement off SH2, has a unique round hall and is an area steeped in history. The Mohaka road offers fine views of Hawke's Bay and Napier. Surfcasting from beach.

Raupunga [Wairoa 35k, Napier 83k] is a small settlement on the highway with an interesting marae and is the starting point for a round trip on an unsealed road to Wairoa that includes the Putere Lakes, Waiau River and the Waihi Hydro Scheme, and a scenic reserve. 

Mohaka Bridge [Wairoa 38k; Napier 80k] picnic area ­ view of the spectacular Mohaka Railway Viaduct which is constructed of steel and is 96m above river level with a span of 278m.

Kotemaori [Wairoa 48k; Napier 70k] Small settlement.

Putorino [Wairoa 58k; Napier 60k] This settlement boasts an exceptional sports complex.  Hotel.

SH5 Turn-off to Taupo [Wairoa 105k; Napier 13k] An alternative route to travelling north of Gisborne via Opotiki to reach the central North Island.
