Gisborne Canoe and Tramping Club

To the impressive Ngatapa mountain and pa site where in 1868/69 Te Kooti's people were attacked by the forces of the Armed Constabulary, Ngati Porou, Arawa and Kahungunu, in one of the most significant battles of the New Zealand Wars. Access through 'Hillview' off Makaretu Rd, about 4 hours walking including a steady climb to the top. Cost $15.

Gisborne Canoe and Tramping Club

Manuoha – Sandy Bay, Waikareiti [FE] Three day/two night trip over Manuoha to the Sandy Bay Hut and back to Lake Waikaremoana. The Sandy Bay Hut is classed as a “great walk” hut so the cost is about $35 per person, but the Manuoha Hut will be half this cost. The transport cost will be $25 per person.
